MoMENtum / Men's Fraternity

MoMENtum presents:

THE SPECIFICS

Monday, July 28, at 6:30pm

$6 in advance or $8 at the door (great dinner included)

In the Vineyard Youth Auditorium

THE TOPICS are relevant and challenging. They speak directly to the deep issues of manhood, answering the tough question of “What it means to be a man?” They provide men with an encouraging process on how to live lives of authentic manhood as modeled by Jesus Christ and directed by the Word of God.

THE FORMAT is simple: Men come together twice a month for a great man-sized meal followed by challenging teaching sessions by Robert Lewis and then lively small group discussion in an environment where men are free to talk openly and confidentially about what they heard, and express mutual support for one another.

THE RESULT is men connect in life-changing ways, causing a powerful ripple effect touching families, workplaces, and the church. Deeper connections with God and other men inspire participants to connect more meaningfully in all facets of their lives. They climb beyond the walls of isolation and aspire to a biblical viewpoint marked by integrity, boldness, and compassion.

Through this powerful series, men learn to: Reject passivity, Accept responsibility, Lead courageously and Expect God’s greater reward.

THE ORIGIN of the internationally popular series, THE QUEST FOR AUTHENTIC MANHOOD was created by Robert Lewis as the foundational ground level teaching of MENS’ FRATERNITY.

What Men Are Saying...

“Quest for Authentic Manhood is THE BEST information I have ever heard on the issue of what it means to be a man. The insight from these teachings has caused me to laugh, cry and deeply examine who I am as a man. Men’s Fraternity is more than a teaching series, it’s an experience.” --Mario Fernandez, Pastor

“In my estimation, this series is the most important, life changing information for men that I know of. It provides a wisdom for life that is truly life-giving!”
--Dr. Charles Barg, Physician

“In a culture where men are bombarded with mixed signals
about what it means to be a man, Men’s Fraternity provides
real, straightforward answers to every man’s questions about
who he is and how he should be living.” --Fred Wood, Telecommunications Executive

An Introduction to VLI

Vineyard Leadership Institute (VLI) was created to integrate hands-on training, ministry experience, spiritual formation, and academic understanding with an uncompromising commitment to excellence in biblical-theological, ministerial and spiritual-formational training.
The instructors are experienced pastors: recognized theologians who are committed to Vineyard-style ministry and who are experts in the fields that they teach.

Vineyard Leadership Institute is a two-year, part-time academic program.
VLI offer courses in biblical studies and theology.
The VLI staff is made up of professors qualified and experienced to teach at university and graduate levels.
VLI courses include interpreting scripture, church planting, leadership, preaching and teaching, power ministry, counseling, spirituality and many others.
VLI will enable students to develop a sound, Christ-centered theology by providing the knowledge and skills needed to understand the scriptures.
VLI will mentor students in the ministries of the church, to develop and hone their leadership skills, to discover their individual gifts and talents and to recognize the ministry God would have them pursue.
VLI will encourage the students to draw close to God through personal prayer and meditation, so they may know His great love for them.
VLI will work with students to encourage a passion for God's work in the world and through His church

VLI offers a distinctive, cutting-edge, and empowering curriculum that allows students pragmatic training in church leadership as well as challenging studies into spirituality and theology
“Is VLI right for you?”

We are looking for the called and committed, the teachable and the yielded. We are asking you to devote 21 months of your life to be trained and molded so that you can effectively employ your gifts and talents for the kingdom of God.
Is God calling you to leadership? Do other spiritual leaders also see this call?
Are you willing to commit 20 hours per week for 21 months to prepare for leadership?
Is there room in your budget for tuition, and books (aprox. $3,400 over 21 months)

“I am interested in becoming a student At-a-Distance. How do I do that?”
If you think VLI might be the thing for you the next step is to let me know, you'll need to fill out an application and turn it in to me. The next entrance period for VLI will be in the Fall of 2008. Sometime before then you will need to schedule an interview with me (Dave McPherson), complete the two essays and have a pastor or ministry leader fill out the recommendation form and return them all to me.
If you feel that God is calling you to ministry and you know that you need to be equipped for that work, don’t let anything stand in your way. Remember we are accepting a limited amount of new students, so if you’re interested, be sure to let me know so we can reserve a spot for you. If you have any questions or just want to talk about if VLI is for you, please don’t hesitate to either call me at (623) 934-4000 ext. 389 or send me an e-mail to dave@vcfnp.com.
“How much time does VLI really take?”
VLI should take approximately 15-20 hours of the student’s time each week. That includes class time, mentoring, study time, etc. This time may increase or decrease depending on the student’s own learning style. VLI is a 21-month commitment that will require adjustment of the student’s schedule.
“What if VLI doesn’t fit my schedule?”
Most of our students are involved in part-time or full-time lay or paid ministry as well as having full- or part-time jobs, families, etc. It is possible to “do life” and take VLI, too.
If you are unsure about the time commitment, talk to your boss, your spouse, your pastor, or other wise council. If it seems like it simply won’t work, we advise to pray that the Lord would open your schedule up in accordance with His timing.
Students at VCFNP have their weekly classes on Tuesday nights. The majority of mentoring occurs on Sunday mornings, during 3d service, and Intensives are Fridays and Saturdays, twice per quarter.
Cost:

$563 due with application
$513 due each quarter thereafter for another six quarters
Aprox. $50 for books each quarter

For more information contact Dave McPherson at (623) 934-4000 ext. 389 or by e-mail at dave@vcfnp.com.
You can also checkout the VLI website at www.vli.org.

The Character of God, Understanding His Heart for Us

Character – Knowing God makes all the difference in how we navigate our daily lives. Not knowing about God, but really knowing God as we know a friend and understanding the depth and nature of His character. As we begin to understand God’s character, we understand His heart for us – and it empowers us to be more like Christ.

In this small group study, you will explore more deeply the ways of God and delve into the depth of His character, studying these six topics:

The Sovereignity of God

God’s Unchanging Character

God’s Amazing Grace

The Trustworthiness of God

The Nearness of God

God’s Unending Love

Throughout these six sessions, you’ll learn more about God’s character and how truly knowing Him will change your relationship with Him forever!

Welcome to Community, Experiencing Life the Way God Intended

Community – What was God’s design for community? When Jesus established the first “church” there were no stained glass windows, pews or organs. As challenging as it would be to unit such a diverse group into a purpose-filled family, Jesus knew it was His Heavenly Father’s desire. It would take sacrificial love, time and commitment on everyone’s part.

God designed us to need each other, and He created a plan to meet that need – it’s called the church. Discover what being part of community God’s way is all about as you explore these six components of community living:

The Family of Believers

Why Community is Good

Love One Another

Learning to Forgive

Cultivating Spiritual Growth

What’s My Part

New Bible Study Books Coauthored by Brian T. Anderson

Greetings,

I am sending you this e-mail to let you know about an exciting new venture I’ve been working on.

While there are many good Bible study books available, very few of them are written from the “Empowered Evangelical” perspective that we have in the Vineyard. To help fill that void I am co-authoring, along with Glynnis Whitwer, a Bible study series called, “Kingdom Living”.

Ampelon Publishing has just released the first two studies in this series: “Six Habits of Highly Effective Christians,” and “Worship: Nearing the Heart of God.” Two more studies will be available in the spring on knowing God and living in Biblical community (these titles haven’t been finalized). Each book contains six lessons, with approximately 15 questions each. Each lesson also includes a memory verse and room for personal journaling and prayer requests. There is also a leader’s guide at the back of each book with additional notes for those leading a Bible study.

It is my hope that small both groups and individuals will use these studies. They combine Bible study with the core values of the Vineyard. Because of that, they would be great to use in leadership development and general teachings on Vineyard values.

It is my sincere hope that through these studies you will be inspired and impacted by God. Please stop by the Bookstore and check them out!

Love,
Brian

Worship: Nearing the Heart of God

We talk about worship all the time in church and we practice it each weekend, but what is worship really all about? Why do we do it? What purpose and place does it have in our lives as followers of Jesus? In the first small group study in the Kingdom Living series, you will explore the answers to these questions and many more through looking at these topics: Settling the Issue of Lordship, Experiencing God in Worship, Gaining a God-Perspective, Developing Our Character, Overcoming Obstacles to Worship, and Worship through Advancing God's Kingdom.

Throughout these six sessions, you'll learn why worship plays such an integral role in God's Kingdom -- and you'll learn it together through studying God's Word and sharing your insights with each other.

About the Authors

Brian T. Anderson is the founding pastor of Vineyard Church North Phoenix in Phoenix, AZ. In September 1985, Brian and his wife, Thora, planted the church as a home Bible study, which has grown to over 3,500 weekend attendees.

Glynnis Whitwer is a member at Vineyard Church North Phoenix, and is involved in several ministries. She is also the senior editor of P31 Woman magazine for Proverbs 31 Ministries, the author of work@home: A Practical Guide for Women Who Want to Work from Home, and is a contributing author to books published by Focus on the Family, Harvest House, and Proverbs 31 Ministries.

Six Habits of Highly Effective Christians

Simply going to church and adhering to a list of "dos" and "don'ts" is a far cry from the life God intends for us to have as Christians. He wants us to change the world around us, which begins by understanding the power of a deep relationship with Him. In the second small group study in the Kingdom Living series, you will explore ways to deepen your relationship with God and become a more effective Christian, exploring the following disciplines: Knowing the Bible, Making Prayer a Priority, Living a Life of Obedience, Giving to God, Living in Community, and Serving Others. Throughout these six sessions, you'll learn secrets of effective Christians, how it has revolutionized their faith, and how it can revolutionize yours, too.
